......There are several languages spoken in Ethiopia. However, Amharic is the most popular language by far. It is
spoken widely through out different regions of Ethiopia more than all other dialects. Amharic originated from one of the oldest languages Geeze, which is the root of many languages spoken through out the world. There are some similarities in the sounds and structure of the Amharic alphabets to other alphabets of the world such as Prussian, Russian, and many other European countries (even countries with romantic languages). Just as Chinese alphabets differ from Arabic alphabets, Ethiopia's alphabets are also one of a kind and unique to the country.
......In the first couple of lessons, you will learn how to read and write the alphabets ....this will be similar to learning the ABCs. We will spend a great deal of time in this area because Amharic alphabets are high in number and quite different from anything you may have previously encountered. The lessons are arranged sequentially therefore, you will need to understand a given topic before moving on to the next one. There will be quizzes to test how much of the material you understand. We highly recommend that you go through these quizzes several times until you feel comfortable with the topic before proceeding to the next lesson.
......In your software package, you will find video clips that will teach you the common ways of writing Amharic (Lesson 5). Using a separate sheet of paper, practice writing the alphabets as many times as necessary. Additional supplementary writing and penmanship booklets can be ordered separately.
